Peace, joy, and giving are all a part of the Christmas season. However, going broke buying all those presents isn’t very fun. Luckily, with a little thought and imagination you can give gifts that will please everyone on your list and not break the bank doing it.
One way to do this is to go to a craft store and spend some time looking over what is available there and what you would feel comfortable working with. One nice Christmas gift ideas is knitting. You can knit caps, gloves or even scarves. In fact, a matched set of the three would make a nice gift to someone special on your list. After all, you are giving them something practical, if you live in a cold winter climate, plus it is something that comes from the heart and not the pocket book.
Another great idea for a handmade gift that is a little different is to make some home decorations. Go to the art store and pick up some shadowbox frames. If you have someone on your list who is a big music fan you can create a background of music notes and add a copy of a favorite artist’s CD, with a doll house piano in the frame. You can usually find items like a doll house piano and other doll house furniture at the craft store. Of course, you can create shadowboxes for any hobby, from fishing to sewing. Use your imagination here and I’m sure you can come up with plenty of ideas to suit just about anyone on your Christmas list.
Making ornaments is another great way to not only celebrate Christmas but to give a gift from the heart. Use your imagination, as there are many ways you can create ornaments and have them be something unique. One thing you can do here is hand paint some plain glass ornaments, creating a gift that will be used every year and pasted down from generation to generation. We actually have ornaments in our family that where made by my great grandmother and that are the most treasured ornaments we have. Every year, when we decorate the Christmas tree, they are the ones that get the prominent position at the front of the tree.
There are so many different ways you can make ornaments that you could actually give them as gifts to everyone on your Christmas list and have them all be different types of ornaments with different designs. Hand painting plain ornaments is just one idea. Another fun idea is stringing plastic or cloth flowers together to make a Christmas tree garland. You can also make picture frame ornaments, or, using pipe cleaners and pony beads, you can make different Christmas shapes for ornaments.
Another idea everyone on your list would love to receive is homemade food. You can bake them a cheesecake, or, if you start early enough, you could can or preserve some vegetables and fruits from your garden. Little pots of fresh herbs make great gifts for the cooks on your list, also.
So, as you can see Christmas shopping doesn’t have to drain your bank account. In fact you can turn it in to a more joyful time of year then if you just went out and braved the hordes at the mall while trying to buy the same thing as everyone else.
