(Thanks for all your hard work, Mom. I can’t believe you had everything looking so beautiful and cooked most of the meal on top of it!)
First, the sideboard Thanksgiving centerpiece:

Next, the table itself:
Finally, the lovely Autumn wreath on the front door:
I love vintage buttons. Put them together and you have a cheery Thanksgiving garland to hang. These are really easy to make. We whipped ours up in about an hour. I wanted to press it, but the little guy wanted to hang it right away. Guess who won.
To make a Thanksgiving garland, you will need enough buttons to spell out your message, a nice heavy wool felt, a matching ribbon and contrasting rickrack. We cut the felt into flag shapes, hot glued the buttons on and hot glued the rickrack to the edges of the flags. Then, we spaced them out on the ribbon and glued it all into place. We left about a foot of extra ribbon on each end so we could tie the garland to something.

When I saw these mini pumpkins today, I couldn’t resist picking up a few to make a similar little display for Thanksgiving. I think it would make the perfect autumn centerpiece for a small table or a decoration for the sideboard. I need to scatter a few artificial leaves around to finish it off, but I have to find them first. I think I took them to the library last year so the kids could have the leaves “falling” around them during storytime.
If you are making them for Halloween, you may want to try making faces on the pumpkins to turn them into Jack O Lanterns. To make these, simply cut a pumpkin shape out of scrapbooking paper and cut an identically shaped lower half out of the same paper. I made the top edge of mine jagged to resemble the way a jack o lantern’s top edge is traditionally carved. Place the half pumpkin on top of the whole one, right sides facing up. Punch holes around the edges and lace them up with a coordinating piece of yarn.
By the way, if you leave the ends of the yarn long to create a handle, these can be treat bags for a party, instead.

Just make sure you have it close enough that mom or dad can help with dinner if need be. You can also create some fun favors for the kid’s table, like pilgrim hats. Of course, if you make the children’s table too fun, you may have to keep the adults from swapping seats with the kids!

There’s no doubt that a centerpiece will add a finishing touch to any table’s décor. There are so many things you can do with a table to create a fantastic looking centerpiece. Here are a few ideas:
*     A large, gutted pumpkin makes a great centerpiece. Fill it will a fall floral arrangement and scatter leaves, nuts and clusters of berries around the base.

*Â Â Â Â Purchase a nice looking wreath from a local craft store, place it in the center of the table, then add leaves, nuts, berries and even a couple of small pumpkins around it.
*    Create a mini pumpkin patch using a large pumpkin, some medium and a few small pumpkins. Get some fresh, dried or silk fall leaves and place them in with the pumpkins all around.
*Â Â Â Â Use live plants such as fall mums, ivy or ferns and even floral moss instead of fresh flowers; plant them in a nice container and set in the middle of the table.

*    Use candles. Candles always add a great touch to any décor. For Thanksgiving dinner it is a good idea to light candles that are unscented, so that the candle scent does not interfere with the wonderful smells of turkey, stuffing and whatever other great food you’ve got cooking.

You’ve ordered the turkey, bought the veggies and thought about where everyone is going to sit at the table, but do you know what you’ll do with the table décor? Here are some ideas for setting the Thanksgiving table beautifully…

Dress the table:

You can dress up a table in seconds using a tablecloth or placemats. You can find them both in many different autumn patterns and colors. However, choosing a solid color may be a good idea if you are going to use dishes and centerpieces with a lot of color and patterns.

Place Settings:

Although you can serve a meal buffet style, setting a place for each person ahead of time will create such a welcoming table. You may want to make a nice nametag for each guest as an added touch. Making your own nametags is easy. Take a large leaf that has been rinsed and dried and then write the guest’s name on it with a black or gold marker. Cloth napkins can be used to really make the holiday feel more special. Napkin rings are also a nice touch; use a coordinating color or pattern.

Quick idea: To make a really neat looking plate, take two clear glass plates and on top of one plate place a few colored fall leaves. Then, place the other plate on top of the leaves so that they are sandwiched between the two plates.

There are so many ideas for creating a wonderful and welcoming Thanksgiving table, use those that suit you and your needs for a little less stressful dinner. No matter how you decorate the table at Thanksgiving, the most important thing is to be surrounded by those you care about because that’s what Thanksgiving is all about. Have a fantastic Thanksgiving!

The family has been invited. The Thanksgiving dinner menu is planned. Turkey is in the oven, cornbread dressing is almost ready to bake. Now it’s time to set the dinner table. Here are some tips for setting a Thanksgiving table.

Keep it Simple – Why stress yourself out during the holiday? Don’t try to overdo the dinner table with crystal, fine china, or fancy cloth napkins (especially were children are involved). Keep it super simple. Buy heavy-duty disposable dinner plates, plastic silverware, cups and paper napkins. Party stores offer holiday disposables at a very affordable price. You can purchase nice dinner wear quite inexpensively. Plus, you’ll have a quick and easy clean-up without all the extra dishes to wash.

Fun Centerpieces – Make your centrepieces fun. In lieu of elaborate floral centrepieces, try something fun this time. Get creative and use things like your dinner rolls to create a mountain. Or build a faux fountain, using cake stands and stacking your side dishes in an artful way in the center of your table.

Go Back in Time – Create an old-fashioned Thanksgiving theme. Lay mismatched table cloths or table runners on your table and use oil lanterns as your centrepiece. Set the table with a variety of different dinnerware. Set small wooden buckets on the table to hold silverware and napkins. Use anything that doesn’t match to create an old-time feeling for your Thanksgiving dinner.

Don’t Set the Table at All – One of the easiest and best ways to go, is to simply not set your dinner table at all. Lay all dishes on your bar or serving cart, with the plates and silverware at the beginning. Let everyone serve themselves buffet-style and sit where they choose.

Above all remember that this is a family dinner. Relax and enjoy the food and your family. Keeping your Thanksgiving dinner table setting simple will make your dinner much more enjoyable for you.

Are you tired of pulling out that same old tablecloth every Thanksgiving? If so, why not try a more festive Thanksgiving table decorating idea? You will need a blue or white tablecloth, a clear vinyl tablecloth, and real or artificial fall leaves. Lay down your solid tablecloth, arrange the fall leaves on top of it, and then cover the tablecloth and leaves with the clear cloth.
If you have children, you can involve them in the festivities, instead. You will need a roll of brown paper or newsprint, a clear vinyl tablecloth, and crayons or paints. Let your children decorate the paper with Thanksgiving images. If they don’t want to draw pictures, they can use leaves and paint to make prints on the paper. Once the paper is dry, lay in on the table and cover it with the vinyl cloth.
