Face Painting Ideas

Posted on Wednesday 27 June 2007

Looking for some ways to entertain your kids this summer? Our gang went to the craft store the other day and bought face paints. They are covered in face painting designs - maybe I should call it arm, leg and face painting? Anyway, here are a few of the designs my family painted on them:

This comprehensive e-guide to face painting is perfect for teens. Once your son or daughter practices on younger siblings a few times, he or she can make a bit of pocket change by setting up a summer face painting business for birthday parties. (I always was one of those teens who liked to do my own thing during the summer instead of putting on a fast food uniform, so I immediately think, “Ooooh, I should have tried that to make money!” when I see something like this.)

July 4th Fun

Posted on Friday 22 June 2007

The 4th of July is a big holiday in the United States. Independence Day festivities include fireworks, picnic dinners and pool parties. Of course, handing the kids a handful of fireworks is not the safest idea, but they love to join in the explosive fun. Poppers are a fairly kid friendly way for your younger children to make a racket, but they often aren’t exciting enough for older kids. Here are a few ideas for explosions that are fun for older kids and can even double as a science activity for homeschoolers:

* Get a package of Mentos and a 2 liter bottle of Coke. Open the Coke bottle, unwrap the Mentos and drop them in fast. Step back or you will be covered in sticky mess when the Coke explodes from the bottle in a fountain several feet high.
* Find some old fashioned plastic film containers (the black ones, not the clear ones) and alka seltzer tablets. Fill the canisters about halfway with hot water, drop in a quarter of a tablet and replace the lids. Turn the containers over and watch them blast off. These rockets are soo much fun.

Anyone else have any explosive ideas for the July 4th holiday?
