Earth Day is the perfect time to learn about recycling. Here are a few ideas:
- Why not clean out your closets and toy bins and recycle all those unwanted items to your local thrift store?
- Create an easy to use recycling center. Encourage your children to rinse and recycle bottles, cans and plastic containers.
- Research all of the ways you can easily save energy and help the earth. Oprah had a wonderful show today on going green and so many of these simple ideas can really make a huge difference if we all do them. Her guests mentioned that something as simple as everyone in the United States changing one standard light bulb in your house for a CFL light bulb or using one less napkin could really lower polution. I didn’t realize something that small could have such big results.

Now, I know you’re curious about what I’ve done to celebrate Earth Day, so here goes:
- I recycled bottles and cans someone was planning to throw away.
- I flattened some big pieces of heavy cardboard and used them as landscape fabric under a layer of mulch in my garden instead of discarding them.
- I unplugged my extra television so it doesn’t sit around drawing energy when noone is watching it.
- I called my mom and convinced her to use some of those CFL lightbulbs.
What did you do to make a difference for the earth today?
