Earth Day Fun

Posted on Friday 20 April 2007

Earth Day is the perfect time to learn about recycling. Here are a few ideas:

  • Why not clean out your closets and toy bins and recycle all those unwanted items to your local thrift store?
  • Create an easy to use recycling center. Encourage your children to rinse and recycle bottles, cans and plastic containers.
  • Research all of the ways you can easily save energy and help the earth. Oprah had a wonderful show today on going green and so many of these simple ideas can really make a huge difference if we all do them. Her guests mentioned that something as simple as everyone in the United States changing one standard light bulb in your house for a CFL light bulb or using one less napkin could really lower polution. I didn’t realize something that small could have such big results.

To see all of the great tips and ideas Oprah’s guests talked about, visit the website.

Now, I know you’re curious about what I’ve done to celebrate Earth Day, so here goes:

  1. I recycled bottles and cans someone was planning to throw away.
  2. I flattened some big pieces of heavy cardboard and used them as landscape fabric under a layer of mulch in my garden instead of discarding them.
  3. I unplugged my extra television so it doesn’t sit around drawing energy when noone is watching it.
  4. I called my mom and convinced her to use some of those CFL lightbulbs.

What did you do to make a difference for the earth today?

When looking for the car rental deals, a refined search is necessary. For the lowest rates and special offers, check the national car rental service. If the need is for the widest selection of vehicles including more reservable brands and models, hertz car rental will be a better choice.

Easter Place Setting Craft Idea

Posted on Saturday 7 April 2007

easter chick and egg place settingThese were easy to cut out and the kids loved lacing up the pockets. Just cut an egg shape and a half egg shape for each place setting. I made the eggs as long as the diameter of a plate. Then I put the half egg on top of the egg and punched holes for lacing. I turned the kids lose with the eggs and let them lace them up to make pockets for each place setting. When they were done, I had them glue on chick and bunny cut outs and added an initial to let each dinner guest know where he or she was sitting.
