Posted on Friday 14 July 2006

1. Caramel Apples: These tasty treats are one of the main stays of Halloween.

2. Witch and Wizard Sundaes: These awesome Halloween treats are worth the effort. Dip sugar cones in chocolate to create the witch or wizard hat. Before chocolate is dry use different colored sugar to stencil moons and stars onto the hats.

3. Spider Web Cake: Use a round cake and add orange or white frosting. Add milk to chocolate frosting to thin. Drizzle (or use piping bag) chocolate frosting starting from the middle of the cake and spiraling outward until you’ve reached the edges. Gently drag a tooth pick (or tip of knife) from the center of the cake outward to the edges. When youre finished creating your spider web cake, decorate with gummy spiders or bugs.

4. Halloween Pizza: Decorate your pizza with cheddar cheese. Overlap pepperoni slices around the edge of the pizza. Use black olive slices for eyes and strips of green pepper for eyebrows, nose and smile.

5. Ooze Cupcakes: Combine 8oz cream cheese, 1 egg and 1/3 cup sugar with an electric mixer. Blend in 2 drops yellow and 1 drop red food coloring. Stir in chocolate chips with a spoon. Use this filling in addition to your favorite cupcake recipe. After filling the cupcake liners with your cupcake batter, add this filling to the center of the batter. Bake as your cupcake recipe suggests. As the cupcakes bake the batter will rise and surround the filling. Top with your favorite frosting.

6. Witch Fingers: Beat 1 cup butter, 1 cup icing sugar, 1 egg, 1 tsp almond extract and 1 tsp vanilla. Stir in 2 2/3 cup flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt. Cover the mix and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Work with approximately ¼ of the dough at a time. Roll one heaping tsp of dough into a finger shape. Press an almond into the tip of the finger to create a fingernail. To create knuckles squeeze the center of the fingers. Use a knife to create slashes to simulate the knuckle. Bake for 20-25 minutes on 325 degrees. Once cool, lift almond and squeeze red decorator gel into the nail bed and push almond back down.

7. Easy Popcorn Balls: Heat corn oil in a 4 quart kettle over medium heat for 3 minutes. Add ½ cup popcorn cover while leaving slight opening. Shake frequently over medium heat until popping stops. In a mixing bowl mix ½ cup corn syrup, ½ cup sugar, ½ tsp salt. Add this mixture to popcorn stir and toss constantly over medium heat for 3-5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and popcorn is evenly coated. Remove from heat glaze your hands with butter gently form mixture into balls.

8. Kitty Cookies: Make your favorite peanut butter cookies. Add small candy-coated chocolates for eyes, and red-hots for the nose. Score with a fork to form whiskers.

9. Cheesy eyeballs: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Add ½ cup margarine to 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese. In a separate bowl, combine ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp paprika, and 1 cup flour. Combine both mixtures. Pull off approximately 1 tsp of mix and form around a green olive. Leave the pimento uncovered (creating the eye ball). Place all of your eyeballs on an un-greased cookie sheet and bake for approximately 15 minutes.

10. Layer a pan ¾ of the way full with softened chocolate ice cream (or you may use chocolate pudding). Top with approximately ¼ inch of chocolate cookie crumbs. Put gummy worms on the top and youre ready to eat your dirt!

Posted on Friday 14 July 2006

This spooky ghost necklace is an easy kids’ Halloween craft that uses simple supplies from around the house.

You will need:
White glue
Waxed paper
Paper clip
Googly eyes (or use marker, or black construction paper)
String or Yarn

Spread a sheet of waxed paper. Apply glue directly onto the waxed paper, making a shape of a ghost. Your ghost can be as small or large as you wish for your necklace. When finished designing your glue ghost immediately place the paper clip into the top of the ghosts head (while the glue is still wet). You may either extend the paper clip into a V shape or use it as is. Allow the ghost to dry fully. When dry, peel the ghost off of the waxed paper and attach your string or yarn. Youve just made a scary piece of Halloween jewelry.
